About TradeQuote Tools

TradeQuote Tools is a free website that helps tradespeople estimate a job’s cost and prepare a quote from numbers they already know.

What it is for

Electricians, plumbers, carpenters, and painters can add labor, material, and expense lines, each with a description, quantity, unit, and unit price. The calculator turns those figures into a selling price at a profit margin they choose, with an optional discount. The on-screen estimate shows cost and profit. The customer preview and the printout do not.

The writing is aimed at people pricing work in the United States. Amounts can be shown in US dollars or British pounds, so someone pricing work in the United Kingdom can type their own rates. Choosing pounds does not convert dollars, and it does not apply UK tax rules. Currencies and local notes for more of Europe are not part of this version.

What the margin means

Profit margin here is profit divided by the final selling price. It is not a percentage added on top of cost. If you also enter a discount, the price before discount is raised so the amount after the discount still targets that margin. Each calculator page shows the formula beside the result.

What it does not do

It does not look up material prices, wage surveys, or permit fees. It does not calculate sales tax or VAT. It does not save quotes to an account, because there are no accounts. You can save a draft in the browser you are using. That draft is not a backup and it is not shared to a server. It does not tell you that a quote will win the job, that the business will make money, or that these pages will rank in a search engine. The painter page can estimate a paint quantity from coverage you type. It does not supply that coverage.

How your figures are handled

The calculators run in the browser. These pages do not send the numbers you type to a server. If you print or save a PDF, that file stays on your computer. The privacy policy describes this in more detail, and the terms of use describe what the results are not.

The name of this website
